ROUTE DESCRIPTIONS

Route Map

THE GRIZ (100 miles) Over 10,000 foot elevation gain. Pass Mile High Vista, Jackass Rock, Arch Rock, the red fir forests of Cold Springs Summit, speedily descend to Bass Lake and back to North Fork.

THE METRIC CENTURY (100k = 63 miles) A 5,000 foot elevation gain. North Fork to Mile High Vista and back. Tremendous views of conifer forests, rock formations, and the high Sierra.

LOOP THE LAKE (24 miles) A 1,000 foot elevation gain around Bass lake, the Pines Resort. Beautiful pines and quiet roads. Then return to the staging area along county highway 274.

THE DOUBLE TAKE is an option and an addition to the 2008 Grizzly Century. It is intended to for the full century riders but may be undertaken by any rider. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THE NOVICE ! The ride option starts at the junction of Road 274 and the Beasore Road. You will climb 4,000’ in 12 miles to Cold Springs Summit [7,308’], turn around and descend to the starting point. The climb takes about 2.5 hours for an average rider and descent about 30 minutes. You must make your way to the starting point on your own and then back to staging at the North Fork School; there is limited parking at the starting point if you are coming from the Metric Century or Loop the Lake ride and it is about 12 miles from staging to the starting point. If you attempt this option and are gently urged to abandon the climb, due to time constraints, please comply, train throughout the year and try again the next year.
